C B Kenworth, Inc, incorporated November 1974, is a franchise dealer in South Portland for Kenworth, Evans and Thermo King; and in Bangor for Navistar, Kenworth and Evans. Presently with 88 employees, our South Portland location is 28,000 sq. ft. and houses our administrative offices, and Bangor is 16,000 sq. ft. Each location is located on 10 acres with ample tractor trailer parking .The company originally began business in a single rented office with parts and service being sublet by Chadwick BaRoss, Inc. In 1976 the demand for heavy truck service in the Greater Portland area precipitated our move to our present location at 42 Wallace Avenue, South Portland. Near the end of 1976 the same demands for heavy truck service in the Bangor area warranted the construction of a new facility on Odlin Road, opposite Dysart's Truck Stop.
Thermo King Corporation approached us in the spring of 1976 to become their Southern Maine distributor. During the first six months of our association, we sold more equipment than the prior dealer had sold in six years. We were able to reverse a very strong trend towards a competitive equipment. At the 1977 dealer meeting in Puerto Rico, we were named the national "Rookie of the Year" for our aggressive sales and service effort. It has been our philosophy that good products and an aggressive Sales Department can make the initial penetration into the market area; however, it takes a properly operated service department to maintain a long term customer relationship. The Service Departments of both facilities are open from 7:30 in the morning until midnight; the Parts Departments of both facilities are open from 7:00 until midnight. Saturday the parts and service departments are open from 8:00 until 5:00. In addition, we are available the remaining hours on an "on-call" basis seven days a week. Each new customer receives a pocket phone directory with each manager's home telephone number so that we are always available to the customer. We're a warranty overhaul dealer for Caterpillar, Cummins and Detroit. In 1980, C B Kenworth, Inc. purchased a local full line GMC dealer in South Portland. The franchise was terminated with the consolidation of GMC, White and Volvo in 1987. In 1988, C B Kenworth, Inc. acquired Leadbetter international and moved their operation into our existing Kenworth facility in Bangor.The International heavy and medium product line has added flexibility to our traditional markets by allowing us into the municipality and school bus market, as well as heavy duty. During 1995, the management of C B Kenworth made the decision to re-enter the full service leasing area, and announced our association with Idealease Inc., January 1996. Twenty four hour service and fueling was established with a rental fleet of tractors and refrigerated trucks. |
